Struck outer ring

In the process of assembling the two components, it may happen that the core does not descend inside the hole or is positioned astride or below the outer ring, but then comes out of the assembly area due to the high rate of striking.

The minted outer rings differ in the size of the hole. Currently the rings with the "small hole" (E.T.20) are distinguished from those with the "big hole" (E.T.21, E.T.22). In addition, specimens can be found "with signs of overlapping" or "without signs of overlapping" of the core with the outer ring.

Cases are known in Italy in which these particular coins were extracted from the official rolls of the Mint. The simplest rings to find on the Italian market are two: 500 Lire 1982 and 500 Lire 1988 Italian Republic. In addition, on the market you can find copies of 1,000 Lire, 500 Lire from the Vatican and the Republic of San Marino, 2 Euros for the European Union, without excluding all other types of bimetallic coins produced in the rest of the world. All possible combinations with other typing errors must be added.
